Before Sally’s Roti Shop opened, Sally would cook meals for friends and family while working as a babysitter. Having moved to the Kingston area from Trinidad with her husband in 1988, Sally grew up eating her mother’s delicious rotis, and began to recreate the dishes from her youth when she was married. Her cooking would always get rave reviews from guests, but she never seriously considered opening a restaurant until her children had left home. She finally decided to take a leap of faith, and opened up her namesake restaurant in 2014.

 

Sally says that her favourite part about running her restaurant is hearing how much customers love her food. Many people come from cities all over Canada to taste her food, and claim that hers is “the best roti they’ve ever had”.
